Hungry Hatchlings by JoycelynSiew Hungry Hatchlings by JoycelynSiew
A pair of Brown Honeyeater hatchlings take refuge in one of my mum's pot plants.

Fun fact: The small neat cup-nest is made from fine bark, grasses and plant down, bound with spiders web, and is slung by the rim in a shrub, fern or tree at up to 5 m from the ground and is usually very well-hidden by thick foliage.

This particular nest is only about 1.5m up, and is covered on three sides by foliage. The only decent gap opens up on the side that faces my door :3

Awww.... I raised a baby robin once. It was the most amazing experience, and I shall always cherish those memories. :)

:wow: That's amazing!! I'm so jealous. What did you feed it? I tried feeding these ones, but either they didn't understand, or they refused to eat from anyone besides their parents.

I fed him pieces of worm and wet cat food. He always made such a mess! However, since these little guys had their parents looking after them, it wouldn't be wise to feed them anything, especially if it's not a normal part of their diet.

Oh I didn't try feeding them bread or seeds or anything. I know these guys eat nectar and insects. Can't help with nectar, so I tried feeding them insects.

My pleasure. You have an amazing view in your house looking into that nest. I bet it beats a bird box camera any day :)
